The bench of Fuerza Popular in Congress launched a legislative proposal that will be presented at the beginning of the next legislature, after July 28, to warn about the high content of fats, sugars, sodium, and saturated fats that are contained in the food offered in fast food chains and restaurants.

Miguel Castro, president of the Consumer Defense Commission said to Gestión that he will present a bill when the new legislature begins. “My proposal is to promote a kind of labeling in the fast food chains, whether it is a traffic light or an octagon type, in which it is indicated to the consumer that the food of the establishment has high-fat content, for example”, he explained to the aforementioned media.
This warning will be similar to the non-smoking signs that establishments have to publish, and it will be tentatively called “Law of Labeling Junk Food In Restaurants and Fast Food Chains”.

Another goal is to regulate the food that is sold so that the consumers are more aware of the calories that each dish contains.
